Description

Scrap Happy is a cozy pixel-art game about magnet fishing. You throw a magnet on a rope into any pond, river, lake or well around the small town of Millbrook, pull up whatever iron and steel is down there, sell the scrap and spend the money on a stronger magnet, a longer rope and a bigger bucket.

You arrive by accident. You've been riding coast to coast and filming the trip for your channel when a pothole folds your back wheel just outside town, so you camp in a tent beside a junk-filled pond and start saving up for the empty cottage across the road.

Millbrook is an old frontier town that the Valley Expressway passed by in 1976. The people who stayed are mostly older now and love telling stories, and many of the things you fish up connect back to them. There are more than 70 characters to meet, 16 quests running through their stories, and every one of the valley's 48 buildings can be walked into.

History

Scrap Happy began as a one-pond prototype built to answer a single question: does pulling a magnet out of the water feel good? Once that question had a yes, the pond grew into a whole valley, with a town, farms, a coast, a castle and a cast of neighbours. The game is heading to Steam Early Access with the full loop playable from a new game through to the finale.

Features

• Fish any water you can walk up to, with no spots to unlock. Each of the valley's 19 areas has its own 30 finds.
• A cast-and-pull minigame: keep the tension in the green zone, and heavier or trickier finds fight back harder.
• 570 finds for the Collection Book, every one with its own line of writing, and all of them iron or steel because it's a magnet.
• 280 made-up bottle caps in 20 collections, with a reward for each finished set.
• More than 70 characters, a gossip network and 16 quests that run through to a finale.
• Interiors for all 48 buildings, from the diner and the arcade to a princess castle with a fairy zoo underneath.
• Your bike breaks down, you camp in a tent by the pond, and you work your way up to buying a home in town.
• A Starter Pond, right beside your tent, that gets visibly cleaner the more you fish it.
• Helpers who fish for you an hour at a time, even while the game is closed, and a character creator.
